Detour Gets Hardcore: Partnering With Underworld
I’ve got some pretty exciting news. Today, the legendary Underworld in Camden – home of metal, hardcore and punk – is joining Detour London as a promoter partner. At the heart of Detour is a belief that true fans can help great promoters bring the artists they love to town sooner. Right now, all the risk in the concert business is shouldered by promoters. It all starts one day, when a super dedicated fan decides enough is enough – I’m going to put my own money on the line, to bring this band to town. Fast-forward ten years, and that fan is an independent promoter, championing and curating incredible nights for all of us.
That’s the case with ATP, our first promoter partner we announced in January. They are true music fans, and have done wonders for the festival and concert scene in the UK. ATP joined Detour, with a list of 8 bands they would love to bring to London and our hope was that if we, the fans, backed those artists on Detour, they would be able to come to London sooner. The response was really incredible! And in partnership with ATP, we have already confirmed two Detour shows for GOAT, and Merchandise and we hope to announce more very soon. As a fan, I’m particularly excited that we’re bringing Merchandise because they’re one of the bands I backed and can’t wait to see.
Underworld is a truly legendary venue. From their gigography on Songkick, you can see that they have put on over 2,000 shows going back to 1990. They have championed hundreds of acts at their earliest stage – bands like Queens of the Stoneage, Radiohead, and Napalm Death. They play a critical role in London’s music scene for the alternative genre’s that many Songkickers love. From obscure Black Metal to the best Hardcore acts, but also KPop, JPop and much much more. The manager, Jon Vyner, has helped an enormous number of acts play to their most loyal fans and, on occasion, knows where to procure some animal blood and a fire extinguisher! The booking team at The Underworld are going to use Detour to try and bring even more great underground music to London. They’ve started with this list of bands they hope to bring via Detour:
The Dead Famous
But they’re also keen to hear who you want to see, and will be watching the Detour leaderboard and booking bands that get a lot of pledges. The most exciting thing about Detour for us, is what real fans can do with it. If you use Detour, even for the craziest idea, we’ll do our best to try and make it happen!
To celebrate another curator joining Detour, we’re giving out 20 more invites to Detour London, you can get them here while they last.
