No Overlapping Sets… A Glimpse Into Festival Future?

A few weeks ago we caught the ferry from Manhattan to Randall’s Island for Governor’s Ball 2012. The weather: immaculate, the line-up: mouthwatering and the beer pong: olympic. But what really made this festival stand out was it’s ‘No Overlapping Sets’ policy. Two main stages, 200 yards apart, whereby fans would flit between the two in a continuous flow of live music.

No standing around. No toilet dilemma. And no unjustified hatred towards the sound guys on stage. Yes, the hourly pilgrimage between two stages was a little hard to get used to, but in retrospect the party simply didn’t stop.

This summer, as we spend our festival hours dancing and waiting in equal measure, spare a thought for Governors Ball – who may well have found the solution.
