Feature change – farewell Recent Activity…

Those of you who log on to Songkick on a regular basis may notice a bit of a change on your Dashboard today. The ‘Recent Activity’ feed is no more, and it has been replaced by a much more simplified version which will only show you the most recently added concerts for your tracked items. This means that you will no longer see updates for your friends activity on the site such as items they’ve started tracking, comments that have been added to artist pages and a few other things related to items you are tracking.

Why have we done this? This is part of our ongoing work to make Songkick quicker – that’s quicker in terms of how fast the site feels to use, and also, quicker in terms of how long it takes us to build and release new features as a team. An important part of being a growing web application is figuring out which features are crucial, which ones are slowing us down, which are unreliable and which ones people either really care about or aren’t that bothered about.

With those points in mind, and with feedback from our community that the Dashboard is cluttered and has too much information on it (“It is a bit spammy as it is now!”), we made the decision to rip it out and replace it with what you’ve told us is the most important part – being notified about the newest concerts!

We know that there will be users out there who’ll no doubt miss the Recent Activity feed, so apologies if you did find it useful for info other than recently added shows. We’ll keep an eye on feedback and monitor how well received this change is.

The way that it will work now, is it will show only the most recently added events for your tracked items from the last 36 hours. This includes any events for your tracked artists, venues, festivals and any events your friends have marked their attendance at. We hope that you find this change useful, and welcome your feedback if you think it could be improved!
