The Wrecking Ball Doesn’t Speak French
I finally got the newest Interpol. It’s so different, I’m very pleasantly surprised. There’s a more mature vulnerability that makes their sound warmer. I think they could write a really amazing musical. Their sound is so capacious and dramatic and emotional at the same time. Enough blah blah-ing from me.
My favorite Sunset Rubdown song has the best lyric with “wrecking ball.”

I just discovered Malajube. Actually, I had my iTunes on shuffle, and it landed on an mp3 I downloaded from Pitchfork a year ago, but obviously never listened to because I failed to recognize its amazingness! They’re from Montreal, so they sing in French. Too bad I can’t understand a word of it. Pitchfork describes their sound as “of-the-moment,” which is exactly what it is. It’s like the amalgamation of every indie sound out there right now, while not being derivative. This intro, for example is pure Wolf Parade, but it quickly moves away from it.
And for another band who sings in French, may I hype my friend’s absolutely amazing band? Die Romantik met in high school in Paris, but now live in Brooklyn. Thanks for uneducated folk like me, they sing in English too. But here’s one in French.
